
Britain’s “pioneering” advertising industry leads the rest of the world and this will continue thanks to the Olympics, creative industries minister Ed Vaizey has said.
As the spotlight turns to London this summer, the government will use the extra attention to create new opportunities for the country’s creative businesses, including advertisers.
Speaking to Brand Republic, the minister explained: “I see the advertising industry in this country as pioneers. I think we forget in this country we are a very creative nation but also a nation that is an early adopter.”
He said there are a number of developments taking place, such as Tech City in east London – a “massive creative hub”, which are giving advertisers a real advantage.
Advertisers can also play a key role in nurturing talent via apprenticeships, Mr Vaizey went on to say, noting that it was vital that the “government and the advertising industry worked together to give people that first step on the ladder”.
He was speaking ahead of the launch of a new nationwide competition from the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) to find the advertising leaders of the future.
The Creative Pioneers competition, which Mr Vaizey has lent his support to, is attempting to “fast track the next generation and help get the economy back on its feet”, according to IPA president Nicola Mendelsohn.
