Apple iPad 4G complaints heard by ASA

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has received complaints that Apple’s marketing literature for its new iPad tablet computer is misleading.

One of the models is being marketed as boasting Wi-Fi + 4G connectivity, even though there is no fourth generation mobile network in the UK.

Apple has already run into trouble with the device in Australia, as it won’t work on the country’s 4G network.

The company has offered a full refund to customers in Australia who felt the advertising misled them.

ASA rebukes TripAdvisor over ‘honest review’ claims

Travel website TripAdvisor has been told to rewrite much of its marketing material after its claims of offering “trusted” reviews by real travellers were criticised by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

The watchdog said it was concerned that the 50 million user comments are not vetted and therefore the website cannot guarantee they are genuine.

Hoteliers and other companies have raised concerns about fraudulent reviews being posted on the site by competitors that could severely damage their reputation.
