Diageo is facing a social media backlash after it was accused of “blackmail” to stop a Scottish brewery from winning a drinks industry award.
Aberdeen-based BrewDog claimed the drinks giant used its power as a sponsor of the British Institute of Innkeeping to prevent its smaller rival from picking up the Bar Operator of the Year prize.
The maker of Guinness and Smirnoff has been forced to apologise after the Scottish firm said it exerted “extreme pressure” on judges.
