Sadiq Khan’s water fountains look to reduce London’s plastic waste

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has headed up an environmental campaign #OneLess, where 20 water fountains will be installed across the capital to make tap water more freely available. The social design project aims to discourage the public from buying new bottles, and also includes a refill campaign encouraging businesses to make tap water freely available to the public.

£750,000 has been set aside to cut plastic waste in the capital over the next three years. The fountains will be installed this year.

Khan is working with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), which owns London Zoo, on the campaign, and has tasked the organisation with providing the 20 fountains and finding sites for them. He is focusing on “busy commuter routes, business and shopping districts”, according to the Mayor’s Office.

The Mayor of London’s office and ZSL are currently seeking water fountain sites, and businesses to take part in the refill scheme.

Cadbury uses pop-up shop to show kindness to Brits

Chocolate brand Cadbury is inviting people to trade in their knick-knacks for a bar of Dairy Milk in a purple newsagent pop-up shop in Soho, as part of an effort designed to “give generosity back to the real people of Britain”.

The pop-up has been designed to tie in with Cadbury’s latest ad “Mum’s birthday” which shows a little girl buying chocolate for her mum with the little things she has in her purse such as buttons and a plastic ring.

The brand has also invited YouTuber stars to film and promote the pop-up to help the brand reach a younger audience too.
